Love love loved working with Heather and Sarah for this shoot.  I started out with flash and the 70-200mm lens for this series and ended up switching to the 50mm and natural light only... we had a huge bank of windows to work with and that wonderful soft light was just gorgeous on Heather.  It's interesting that after working with all the fancy and expensive stuff, the beautiful daylight and the small, simple prime lens were the heros of the day.  I think that's gets to the core of what 2012 is about for me... strip away the complexity and get to the simple stuff.  The simple stuff is where it's at! :)

Model: Heather Jones - Check out her fashion blog, Miss Priss 101

Hair/Makeup: Sarah Bremseth - She JUST opened her own studio, Top Knot!  Congrats, Sarah :)

The new Gainesville Photographers group decided to have our first meetup/outing be a natural light portrait shoot at the La Chua trail at Paynes Prairie.  The lovely Heather Jones and dashing Kirill Korytov were our models - they withstood serious wind and even a little cold for us, so we owe them serious thanks!

Check out Heather's fashion blog here, and you can see Kirill's Model Mayhem profile here.

I recently worked up some images for a competition with the theme "Ice."  I decided to go with self-portraits, which was an experience.  It turns out I have a LOT of bad angles.  Fortunately, out of the 400 that I took, I managed to have four or five that were acceptable after extensive photoshopping. :)  The interesting thing is that I don't think they actually look like me, which made them much easier to work on in post.

The first three have an ice texture that I made and overlaid to the images, the last one looked better without the overlay, but I still haven't decided exactly what to do with the background.  Now accepting suggestions :)

Enjoy!

A challenge that was presented to us at the Beloved Collective in LA by the lovely and talented Samm Blake was entitled 'One'.

We were supposed to take a photo using the theme of 'one', preferably in a style or format that is different from our standard work and submit it to a certain email address by Oct 15.  This is my piece.  It is called 'The Word'.  This woman was speaking about her religion, beliefs and the importance of following the Word of God.  Although I am atheist, I appreciate her passion for her beliefs and respect her conviction.

Without further ado...
