Today we went to the teaching zoo at Santa Fe College.  It's pretty small, but still neat.  I think that many of the animals here are here because they cannot live outside on their own... we definitely saw some birds that appeared to only have one good eye and animals with other injuries.

Whenever I visit a zoo and think about how the day proceeds from the perspective of an animal, I always feel the rest of the world melt away.  The activity of the day happens in the morning, the playing and the foraging... the afternoon is for napping and grooming.  There is no 'to do' list, there are no errands to run, no phone calls to make, no bills to pay.  Just the day stretching out before you, simple and unscheduled.  It relaxes me immediately. :)

I apologize that a couple of these are a little soft... all the photographs (except the peacocks) was taken through screen/mesh/cage so sometimes it got in the way a little bit.

Enjoy!

Ah, Tia and Mar's wedding.  These are some amazing folks, let me tell you!  Tia is an all-powerful goddess... grounded to the earth and connected to the energy of the universe.  Mar is the quiet strength.  She is Tia's rock.  They are a wonderful couple and it was such an honor to photograph their wedding, which was unlike any other.  They began with a private katuba signing ceremony and then had a larger outdoor ceremony later in the afternoon.  We had a beautiful day full of loved ones and love bugs. :)

Friend and tech-splorer Amir and I got together to create some new images for his website, techshido.com.  He is awesome at solving software engineering problems and is a fantastic mentor for software engineers who are making the transition from school to the real world.  We met at The Bull in downtown Gainesville (one of my new favorite spots!) for some beer and some photos a few weeks ago and I think it's safe to say that we had a great time. :)

The new Gainesville Photographers group decided to have our first meetup/outing be a natural light portrait shoot at the La Chua trail at Paynes Prairie.  The lovely Heather Jones and dashing Kirill Korytov were our models - they withstood serious wind and even a little cold for us, so we owe them serious thanks!

Check out Heather's fashion blog here, and you can see Kirill's Model Mayhem profile here.
